This area of research was needed to be conducted as it provides me with knowledge of the Revolution that commenced this Spirit of Kicking Off in France. This type of contextual knowledge can be displayed in my final piece and shows an understanding of the subject at hand, as well as adding a new level of depth to my work, which is a necessity.
The ’68 Student Riots in France is another area of research that needed to be done as I had need of this background knowledge in order to add a more profound meaning to my final piece.
This particular of contextual research was especially important as the causation of these riots still remain today, as well as a hostility which remains from these riots. The information acquired from my research on this topic will be referenced in my final piece.
The Uber Pop Riots; I discovered this by accident when trying to add to my Gilets Jaunes and other riot research areas. However, it became an interesting topic as it highlights a very prominent problem within France, which is their willingness to riot over something as common as new competition, which put forward by Macron, would even create more job opportunities for those stuck in the abyss of unemployment. It also showed the complexity behind these riots and maybe even a bit of idiocy or hypocrisy – whilst simultaneously emphasising the chaos in these riots. The hypocrisy being that a lack of employment causes disturbances within the suburbs which eventually lead to the capital, but when a new employment opportunity arises it is met with hostility. The reasons behind these riots are never black and white, there are both good and bad reasons behind each riot – some just want chaos and anarchy, others just want to be able to feed their family.
I can use these maps to add depth and texture to my work – they have relevant meaning to the message behind my FMP as Paris is the capital of France and is also the central point for the revolutions and riots.
These are Revolution/Riot slogans that I can use in my work. It adds more context and reasoning behind my piece and gives me an excuse to add more of a James Victore-style typography which is what I want to add to my work.
I have researched these news sites as they allow me to see how the news stations are reporting on the riots and whose side they are taking. We can see a difference between the English and French reporting as the English reporting tend to report more neutrally whilst also placing judgement on the French people for rioting rather than being more peaceful. The French media will choose either the governments side or the protesters side, they tend to sympathise with the French people more as they themselves are affected by the same problems. (Both sides of the political spectrum are involved in the Gilets Jaunes riots.)
This type of contextual information is important as it allows me to see what type of propaganda was being used for the first monumental revolution. The one that started the attitude of kicking off when they want change. I have learned that Republic used this motto, among many others, to lead the revolution and inspire the public to get on board with the new republic.
I began researching Neo-Classicism and Rococco style in my sketchbook, and would eventually add some of my research to my blog but I did not add all of my research as I felt that I did not need it all on my blog as well as in my sketchbook. I feel that my time was a little bit wasted in researching the style of art used during this period, however my research on how the revolutions were represented was necessary in my understanding of my subject matter and helped me to infer on how the French saw themselves when protesting and causing riots or revolutions.
